Book Write Club -All about Kopitiams and Food !

Hello everyone,

As a parent, you have likely encountered the challenge of helping your child develop strong writing skills. Many of you have also asked me if I could conduct a writing class for your child. However, parents have varying preferences when it comes to the format of our classes. Some prefer prerecorded sessions, while others are more inclined towards live Zoom sessions. To cater to both groups, I have devised a solution that brings the best of both worlds. We will be introducing a flipped classroom approach.

What is a flipped classroom in Book Write Club?

In a flipped classroom, your child will have the opportunity to learn through recorded video lessons. This allows them to engage with the material at their own pace, ensuring a deep understanding of the writing concepts that we will be exploring.

Interactive Learning and Consultation

After your child has completed their video lesson, they will put their newfound knowledge into practice. They can submit their writing assignments to me online. We will schedule a 15-minute consultation to review your child's writing. During this time, we can discuss your child's progress, provide valuable feedback, and address any questions or concerns you may have about the learning pack.

All about Kopitiams lesson 1 and 2

By the end of this lesson, your child will be able to:

  1. Use acquired vocabulary to provide a description of what a Kopitiam is.

  2. Share personal recounts or experiences related to Kopitiams and favourite dishes.

This lesson will combine reading comprehension, vocabulary building, and creative writing. Children will begin by reading excerpts from the book "Kopitiam" to gain insights into what Kopitiams are and their cultural significance. They will actively engage with the text to identify key vocabulary words and phrases.

Following the reading, children will participate in a vocabulary word bank to reinforce their understanding of Kopitiam-related terms. There are also fun hands-on learning activities to engage your child before our writing activities.

For the personal recount component, children will reflect on their own experiences with Kopitiams. This activity encourages students to connect their personal experiences with the broader cultural context explored in the book.

All about Food Lesson 3

By the end of this lesson, your child will be able to:

  1. Use a rich and varied vocabulary to describe the taste, aroma, and overall characteristics of different foods.

There are fun activities to help your child to learn on good vocabulary to describe food.

We believe that this new initiative will significantly enhance the efficiency of your child's writing development. By leveraging the power of a flipped classroom and personal consultations, we are confident that your child will experience substantial growth in their writing abilities. We are excited to embark on this journey with you and your child. Together, we can help them become confident, skilled writers. If you have any inquiries or would like to get started, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for choosing the Book Write Club to support your child's writing journey! We will be releasing Book Write Club at the end of this week, so stay tuned on that!

Love,

Lynette
